Dear Students and Parents,
We are the youngest and the 25th National Law University (NLU) of the country. We take pride in introducing over selves as the National Law University Tripura. We are starting our first academic session this October 2022. While we welcome the CLAT 2022 score holders to start their journey of legal education with us, we are also committed to a culture of diversity and inclusivity on campus.
As the founding Vice-Chancellor of NLU Tripura, I must say that choice to study law is not merely a decision to identify your branch of graduating degree. Legal Education is a conscious decision to remain committed to the larger aim of being a champion of justice delivery wherever you go. My dear young friends and aspiring lawyers, studying law is a life changing decision. The qualifiers of legal education and degree holders are always looked upon by the society as guardians of their rights. The Bible, the Quran, the Bhagavad Gita of our rule of law is the Constitution of India. As law professionals, we all draw our fundamental rights from the Constitution. We all stand by to embrace, preserve and protect its glory and proliferate its objectives in influencing law and policy making process.
Law School is always the base station for all legal professionals who make it big in their career. Law offers umpteen number of global career choices. As the new generation of National Law University, we have designed a need based curriculum which will not only adhere to the regulations of the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commissions but will also be industry centric. From the very beginning one of our primary focuses will be to facilitate global research and industry exposure to the students of NLU Tripura.
I also want all my prospective law students of NLU Tripura that be proud of your decision to study law while you enter a law school. It may interest you to know that most of our freedom fighters and the members of the Constituent Assembly who drafted the Constitution of India were members of the Bar. Most democracies have seen that the lawyers have always reached to the top, be it becoming the Parliamentarians, Cabinet Ministers of the State Heads of the bigger democracies. Take for example instances of the Presidents of the United States of America (USA). Barack Obama went to the Harvard Law School; Bill Clinton went to the Yale Law School; Gerald Ford went to the Yale Law School; Richard Nixon went to the Duke University School of Law; Rutherford B. Hayes went to the Harvard Law School; William Howard Taft went to the Cincinnati Law School. The current President of USA, Joe Biden went to the Syracuse University College of Law and the present Vice-President Kamala Harris went to University of California, Hastings College of Law. Compare it with the leading law and policy makers in India. Starting from Jawaharlal Nehru who was a lawyer to the more related names like Arun Jaitely (Former Finance and Defence Minister), Salman Khurshid (Former External Affairs Minister), P. Chidambaram (Former Finance Minister), Sushma Swaraj (Former External Affairs Minister), Kapil Sibal (Former Education Minister) to the former President of India, Shri. Ram Nath Kovind, all have been lawyers by profession. There are many more leading lawyers who have taken plunge in to law and policy making contributing towards the nation building.
I hope you all take inspiration from these examples. Friends, I whole heartedly welcome you and your parents to engage with on one to one session, which we will be notifying soon on our website to know more about NLU Tripura and start your journey of legal education with us.
Best wishes,
